Apple enters the AI space

coins the term "Apple Intelligence"

What is Apple Intelligence?

Apple's WWDC introduced a new buzzword: "Apple Intelligence." It took a while to catch on, but by the end of the event, it was clear that Apple was rebranding "Artificial Intelligence" to "Apple Intelligence." So, what does this mean for us as personal trainers?

First off, Apple is minimizing its reliance on OpenAI and focusing on its own models. Tim Cook wants Apple Intelligence to be "powerful, intuitive, integrated, personal, and private." These features are set to go live this fall, and we'll soon see how they measure up. The AI will be integrated into three key areas: Writing tools, Image generation, and Siri, which now takes action. Each of these components promises to bring something new to the table.

The writing tools are particularly exciting. Imagine having a tiny assistant that can proofread and rewrite your texts, emails, and notes across all your apps. You can choose from presets like friendly, professional, and concise, or convert existing content into summaries, key points, tables, or lists. This is a game-changer for managing client communications and staying on top of administrative tasks.

Image generation is also stepping up. Limited to animation, illustration, and sketch styles, this feature lets you create personalized images for messages, notes, and custom emojis. It’s a nice touch that can make your client interactions more engaging and unique.

Siri 2.0 is where things get really interesting. With a fresh design and a major upgrade under the hood, Siri is now capable of taking action across all apps. It understands personal context thanks to a Semantic Index that stores your activity. This means Siri can answer questions like "When is Mom's flight landing?" by pulling together info from texts, flight details, and current status updates. Future updates will bring even more functionality, like screen awareness and product knowledge, making it easier to navigate and manage your Apple devices.

Underneath all these features, Apple uses three levels of language models: an on-device model for local tasks, a server model for more complex needs, and integration with third-party models like OpenAI's ChatGPT. Siri can now interact with ChatGPT without needing a separate account, which enhances its capabilities further.

For personal trainers, these advancements mean a significant boost in efficiency and creativity. Writing assistance and summaries can streamline your communication with clients, while image generation adds a personal touch to your branding. Siri's enhanced capabilities make it easier to manage schedules, retrieve client information, and navigate your devices. Plus, with Apple's focus on privacy, you can be assured that your and your clients' data is secure.

In essence, Apple Intelligence is set to make our devices more versatile and efficient, helping us manage our personal training businesses with greater ease. While these features might not be as powerful as some standalone AI tools, they are well-integrated and designed to make our lives easier.

What feature are you looking forward to using the most?

PS - let’s hope the picture creation with words in Apple is better than with ChatGPT 😀
