Prompt of the Week - How to teach ChatGPT to write like you

It's not as hard as you think!

Here is your ChatGPT tip of the week: Train ChatGPT to write like you

ChatGPT is a powerful tool that can help personal trainers streamline their business. By leveraging this technology, you can generate engaging content that resonates with your clients, saving you time and effort. Here are five simple steps to get ChatGPT to write like you.

1. Lay the Groundwork for ChatGPT

To start, it's crucial to set the scene for ChatGPT. Explain the purpose of your content with a clear and detailed prompt. For instance, you might say:

"I'd like your help in creating articles for my fitness blog. Your first task will be to understand my writing style based on the examples that I give you. After that, we'll create some content. To start, please say GO AHEAD, and I will paste examples of my writing. Keep saying GO AHEAD, and I will paste new examples. When I am done, I will say FINISHED. At this stage, please do not do anything except confirm that you have saved the writing style."

This ensures that ChatGPT knows when to expect more content and when to stop and save your style.

2. Upload Your Writing Samples

Once you get the go-ahead from ChatGPT, start copying and pasting text from your articles, newsletters, or emails (or simply upload them using ChatGPT 4). Choose examples that represent your style, including sentence length, vocabulary, tone, and format. Ideally, provide at least three examples, totaling around 1000 words, to give ChatGPT a comprehensive understanding of your style. When you’ve finished, type "finished" to signal ChatGPT to move on to the next step.

3. Name Your Style

Naming your writing style helps in referring back to it easily. After providing your examples, prompt ChatGPT to summarize your style:

"Great. Let's call this 'My writing style'. First, can you summarize 'My writing style' in a few bullet points? Focus on the sentence structure, tone, and voice."

Review the summary to ensure it accurately reflects your style. If it’s not quite right, give more examples and ask ChatGPT to say “go ahead” until you are satisfied.

4. Make the Ask

Now that ChatGPT understands your style, specify what you want it to write. Start with a polite request, as studies show this yields better results:

"Thanks. Every week, I send a thought-provoking article on a different fitness topic using My Writing Style. Each one introduces a new way of thinking about a common concept, is three paragraphs long, and ends with a question to the reader."

Adjust this prompt to suit your needs, whether it's LinkedIn posts, tweets, letters to clients, or SEO-optimized blogs. Be detailed about what you want included, such as specific stories, facts, or dates.

5. Suggest Changes

The initial response might not be perfect, but it's a good start. Use the following prompt to refine the draft:

"Thanks. Please can you make it more [how you want it edited]."

You might want the text to be more light-hearted, serious, longer, or shorter. Continue refining until you are happy with the results. If any key information is missing, ask for it to be included. For example:

"Include [any additional details]."

ChatGPT should have picked up your style, but you can still ask for specific elements like a story, joke, or pun. If you like one line but not another, ask ChatGPT to adjust accordingly.

By following these five simple steps, you can train ChatGPT to write in your style, creating effortless content that you're proud to share. Effective prompting leads to great results, making your business more efficient and allowing you to focus on what you do best: training clients.

Shakespeare style:

Hark! ChatGPT, a most potent tool, doth hold the power to aid personal trainers in streamlining their trade. By wielding this technology, thou canst conjure content that captivates thy clients, sparing thee both time and labor. Herein lie five simple steps to coax ChatGPT to pen in thine own voice.

1. Prepare the Stage for Thy LLM

To commence, 'tis essential to prepare the stage for ChatGPT. Impart the purpose of thy content with a prompt both clear and detailed. For instance, thou might say:

"I seek thine aid in crafting articles for my fitness blog. Thy first task shall be to discern my writing style from the examples I shall bestow upon thee. After this, we shall weave new content. To begin, say GO AHEAD, and I shall provide examples of my prose. Continue saying GO AHEAD until I declare FINISHED. At this juncture, do naught but confirm thou hast captured my writing style."

Thus, shalt thou ensure that ChatGPT knows when to expect further content and when to halt, saving thy style.

2. Bestow Thy Prose

Once thou hast received the go-ahead from ChatGPT, commence with copying and pasting text from thy articles, newsletters, or missives. Choose examples that best represent thy style, encompassing sentence length, vocabulary, tone, and format. Ideally, provide no fewer than three examples, totaling nigh 1000 words, to grant ChatGPT a thorough understanding of thy style. When thou hast completed this task, type "finished" to signal ChatGPT to advance to the subsequent step.

3. Christen Thy Style

Bestowing a name upon thy writing style aids in recalling it with ease. After proffering thy examples, prompt ChatGPT to summarize thy style thus:

"Excellent. Let us christen this 'PT writing style.' Firstly, canst thou summarize 'PT writing style' in a few bullet points? Focus on the sentence structure, tone, and voice."

Peruse the summary to ensure it doth accurately reflect thy style. If it doth not, offer more examples and instruct ChatGPT to say “go ahead” until thou art content.

4. Articulate Thy Desires

Now that ChatGPT hath grasped thy style, specify what thou dost wish it to compose. Begin with a courteous request, for studies show that such civility yields superior results:

"Gratitude. Each week, I dispatch a thought-provoking article on a diverse fitness topic. Each missive introduceth a novel perspective on a common concept, consisteth of three paragraphs, and concludeth with a question to the reader."

Adapt this prompt to fit thy needs, whether for LinkedIn posts, tweets, epistles to clients, or SEO-optimized blogs. Be meticulous in detailing what thou wishest included, such as specific tales, facts, or dates.

5. Request Refinements

The initial response may not be flawless, but 'tis a worthy beginning. Employ the following prompt to refine the draft:

"Gratitude. Canst thou render it more [how thou wishest it edited]."

Perchance thou desirest the text to be more light-hearted, grave, extended, or succinct. Continue refining until thou art satisfied with the result. Should any crucial information be lacking, request its inclusion. For instance:

"Include [any additional details]."

ChatGPT should have imbibed thy style, but thou canst still request specific elements, such as a tale, jest, or quip. If thou favorest one line but not another, instruct ChatGPT to alter accordingly.

By adhering to these five simple steps, thou canst train ChatGPT to write in thine own style, creating effortless content of which thou art proud. Effective prompting yields splendid results, rendering thy business more efficient and allowing thee to concentrate on thy true calling: training clients.
